Carlo first met Max casually through an acquaintance, just before launching The Sicilian. He hadn’t realized that near the town of Agira, in the Erei Mountains, there was a remarkable family-run business producing world-class extra virgin olive oil, exported across the globe.
Carlo chose to collaborate with Max because, from the very beginning, he was impressed by Max’s strong work ethic and deep knowledge of the olive oil industry. Max demonstrated not only his mastery of traditional methods but also his commitment to embracing new technologies. His dedication to caring for the
environment — both the land where the olive trees grow and the facilities where the oil is made — truly struck Carlo.
What impressed him most is how Max continues to grow his business while keeping sustainability, staff wellbeing, and product quality at the core of everything he does. Today, Max manages more than 300,000 olive trees and has planted over 100,000 new ones in just the past couple of years. He now relies solely on electric vehicles and machinery to minimize pollution around the groves. Every process is carefully tested and refined to ensure the production of outstanding olive oil.
Together, Carlo and Max developed a special blend of extra virgin olive oil designed to please every palate. It combines three iconic Sicilian olive varieties: Cerasuola, Tonda Iblea, and Nocellara del Belice. Their partnership continues to flourish, as they work closely on introducing new EVOO varieties and other innovative products.
